In the 1880s, Gothenburg was Sweden’s leading art city and Nordic art from this period is well represented at the Gothenburg Museum of Art. During this time Swedish artists travelled to France to gain new impressions. Many stayed in Graz outside Paris. Several important Nordic artists from the decade are displayed in this gallery, including Ernst Josephson and Anders Zorn, as well as Anna Ancher, Harriet Backer and J F Willumsen.
