The fortress, seen from the north-east, rises like a mighty crest against the twilight sky in this dramatic image. The fortress presents a closed and secretive aspect, as if brooding on its history. What a contrast between Nordström’s idyllic summer pictures from Grez, flooded with light, and this dramatic rendering of the night with an impregnable fortress in the centre!
