Olle Bærtling developed a non-figurative idiom based on diagonals and artificial colours. Bærtling strove to distance himself as much as possible from the depiction of nature, seeking an entirely concrete, artificial image. In his view, the image would become more universal this way. Bærtling considered himself an international artist and had many contacts with other representatives of the international movement of concrete art. With his diagonals, he opened his images towards infinity.
