Vilhelm Bjerke-Petersen was born in Fredriksberg and studied in Denmark, Norway, and Paris, as well as at Bauhaus in Dessau for Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky. In addition to these abstract pioneers, Bjerke Petersen was affected by surrealism. He also worked as a potter and designer at Rörstrands porcelain factory. This concrete painting, with its yellow, black and violet lines, balancing between large red, white, and black colour fields, is in stark contrast to the artist’s surrealistic production.
