Exhibition History
Even during his lifetime, Hendrick Goltzius was internationally renowned as a printmaker, chiefly associated with his mannerist works. His prints showing falling men, in the series The Four Disgracers, are good examples of this style with their heightened drama and exaggerated body proportions.

Goltzius worked for most of his career in Harlem, where he established his own printing house, thanks to which he could produce and disseminate works of the highest technical and artistic quality from his own workshop. His so-called master prints demonstrate his superior skill and status among Dutch printmakers. In them, he shines with his ability to imitate the style of other great masters such as Albrecht Dürer and Lucas van Leyden.
