Anna Strand’s photographs are aesthetically held-back and low-key. In her artistic work, she investigates and sets in motion the boundaries of the image, the self and reality. She invites the viewer to question both the subject matter of the image as well as what happens beyond the image ˗ ideas about time and space, power and seeing. The motifs are given new meanings by being inscribed in new contexts, or being used in a different way, that breaks the habitual pattern. She unites the documentary impact of photography with the possibilities of fiction to create narratives.
