Roland Persson takes an interest in the everyday and the overlooked – bubble wrap, bin-liners, rags and cardboard boxes – rejected objects often on the verge of crossing the boundary and turning into nature. Persson works in both aluminium and bronze, but it is silicone that has become his material of choice. By colouring the silicone, he produces a painterly surface with a near-realistic appearance. Just as silicone is able to elicit contradictory associations, the motifs oscillate between the surreal, the humorous and the dystopian.
