Exhibition History
August Hagborg was born and raised in Gothenburg. He initially trained at the Royal Academy of Arts in Stockholm, but, like many late-19th-century Swedish artists, he moved to Paris. Here he made a name for himself in 1879 with his work Grande Marée dans la Manche. Hagborg is chiefly known for his beautiful, realistic paintings from the coast of Normandy. This painting, however, comprises motifs from the Swedish countryside and amply demonstrates Hagborg’s acute sense of space and atmosphere.
