Exhibition History
Berndt Lindholm was one of the Nordic artists who already at the end of the 1860s adopted the French en plein air painting, which involved artists leaving their studios to paint outside. Born in Lovisa, Finland, he moved to Gothenburg where he depicted several West Coast motifs – realistic and detailed, as here in Landscape with Cottages, Hisingen from 1881. The painting was made during the period (1878–1905) when he was the curator of art department of the Gothenburg Museum.
