Exhibition History
Bruno Liljefors, who preferred to paint wild nature, also made this warm portrait of a woman with a cat in her lap. The cat who is resting in the woman’s lap is squinting, perhaps thinking of a butterfly chase or what it feels like to lie in wait for a prey in tall grass? The woman’s calm, patient, downcast eyes express tenderness. Perhaps she is thinking: what is life like for a cat? Perhaps the animal curled up in the woman’s lap is Bruno Liljefors’ own cat Jeppe, of whom he was very fond.
