Maria Nordin works mainly with large-scale watercolours or animations based on watercolours. Enlargement and dramatic cropping transform the portraits of the Pink Noise Series to an intimate study of human skin. The extreme close-up is both attractive and uncomfortable. The cut-out segments form a kind of topological landscape of freckles and blotches, elevations and precipices. Nordin exhausts the technical possibilities of watercolour: washes and glazes and the wet in wet technique create small, abstract fields that stand out in the otherwise figurative motifs.
