Claes Oldenburg is one of the central figures of Pop art. He was born in Sweden, but grew up and works in the US. Oldenburg is best known for his installations that represent enlarged everyday objects elevated to the level of art. It could be a shuttlecock, a frankfurter, or, as here, a tea bag. It has been his enduring interest to challenge our unthinking glance by giving hard objects a soft form.
