Description
Bibliography
Arne Jones is the leading sculptor among the Swedish concretists. During the forties, he worked with stylized figures, as in this bronze sculpture. Two pencil thin human figures, a woman and a man, lie sunbathing with legs bent. The woman raises her arm to protect herself from the sun, and the man reclines, one arm resting on his knee, the other placed on the ground as support. Their limbs are transformed into the arches of a mediaeval cathedral. The sculpture explains how concrete art could be called ‘the new gothic’, when the movement arose in the forties.
