Birgitta Liljebladh was born in Gothenburg and studied at the Crafts Association School in the same city, later at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. In her painting, she is based on motifs such as still life, landscapes, faces and figures that are abstracted into larger colour areas and blocks with expressive effect. Liljebladh has also worked with copper printing and taught printing techniques at Valand School of Art. She was elected into the Royal Academy of Art in 1982.
